About me
"Dr. Paul Pelech has worked in the field of education for the past 21 years, 8 of those have been serving the community of Westbury. Prior to his work in education, he worked in aeronautics as a pilot and maintenance technician. His past work in the aerospace industry earned him a spot on the Cradle of Aviation Air and Space Museum’s Wall of Fame. During his tenure at Westbury, Dr. Pelech worked collaboratively with the district leadership team to address the overcrowding at Westbury High School. As a result of his hard work and community support, Westbury Public Schools were awarded the rare opportunity to host a ninth-grade academy on the campus of Nassau Community College from the New York State Education Department. This school was designed to meet the instructional and social emotional needs of the ninth-grade scholars. The community saw immediate positive results and voted to approve a bond that would give the ninth-grade academy a permanent home at Westbury High School. The two cohorts of scholars who attended the off-site school have obtained the highest graduation rates in recent years, while decreased student suspensions and increased participation in the arts. Today, you can see the permanent home the ninth-grade academy built on the North side of Westbury High School.
Dr. Pelech is a fixture at school events. He has performed on stage with students as part of the school band, orchestra, and in the high school musical production. Dr. Pelech also is an active teacher, serving as an adjunct professor at both Queens College and SUNY Old Westbury. During summer months, Dr. Pelech teaches a mathematics enrichment class at SUNY Old Westbury as part of their research foundation program. The class is for scholars who recently completed 8th grade and are entering 9th grade. This opportunity allows Dr. Pelech to get to know incoming Freshmen before they arrive at Westbury High School and creates a trusting bond between him and his scholars.
Dr. Pelech currently serves as the administrative union president for Westbury UFSD while still being an active member of the AFT and NYSUT. In 2023, Dr. Pelech was honored by ESPOIR for his contributions to the youth of the Westbury Community. He is humbled, excited, and honored to share what he has learned with the amazing education professionals of California.”
